Born in the small town of Hamilton, on the outskirts of Glasgow, Jay found his passion in music at the early age of 10 when he first sat behind a drum kit. From the moment he started making noise, Jay knew he had an inherent talent. Known as 'the music guy' in Secondary School, Jay found himself playing in many school shows and ceremonies, even having the great opportunity to play at official Instrumental Tutor held ceremonies dedicated to displaying the talent of students. He joined his first band, the 4-piece mellow rock outfit 'Say Yes' originally as a rhythm guitarist but soon found his way on to the role of lead vocalist and frontman (unfortunately!). The band had played at many gigs, including South Lanarkshire's Inaugural 'Battle of the Bands' in which they came first place, along with charity events for great causes like Bobath and Terminal One Youth Club, and played the 'Live at Livvies' festival for two years in a row. Jay later began a side project with former Say Yes bandmate Logan Gibson, assembling the hard-rock duo 'The Hunch' where Jay would swap between Bass Guitar, Drums, Vocals and Backing Vocals (all at one gig!). Jay then spent some time in the pop/rock band 'Pretty Decent' as a session drummer.
Jay finished Secondary School and moved on to the HNC Music Course at New College Lanarkshire, where he became a part of the 'Jeebeez' - an 80's cover band as a session drummer. He also is working currently as a session percussionist with the LJ's. He mainly spends his time in his studies, along with writing and producing his own music. He debuted his first single 'Set Ships to Sail', a hard-hitting rock tune, in mid-April 2020, and is in the works of creating more music in the near future.
